Heavenly Days Cottage, overlooking Somes Sound, was featured on 'Around the World in 80 Homes' on The Fine Living Channel in October, 2004. It was built in 1895 and completely renovated in 1995 with special attention to restoring all its original details, including woodwork, wood floors, turn of the century slate sink, etc. This Victorian home still carries a flavor of early Maine while offering modern comforts and beautiful views of Somes Sound and the mountains of Acadia National Park. For example, a modern hot tub sits on the original 315 sq ft wrap-around covered porch facing Somes Sound, maximizing the view. The cottage comes decorated with beautiful yet durable antiques. Comfortable and casual, it's like taking a step back in time to yesteryear in coastal down east Maine! On the first floor, you'll find the kitchen with various collections of antique kitchenware, an antique Hoosier, butcher-block counter top as well as all the modern comforts of home. The dining room provides seating for 6-8 and the living room offers great views of the Sound and access to the covered wrap-around porch. The second floor offers 3 bedrooms with 1 king and 2 double beds. The deck off the master bedroom boasts panoramic views of Somes Sound and the surrounding Acadia National Park mountains.
Sit in the hot tub on the covered porch and watch the sailboats and lobster boats float by. You may even see lobster fishermen and women hauling their traps right in front of the cottage while you drink your morning coffee.
Heavenly Days Cottage is tucked at the end of a private road with only 3 other cottages in sight. With sloping lawn to the water's edge, the cottage is situated approximately 250ft from the shore of beautiful Somes Sound, the only natural fjord on the east coast. Extensive granite stonework, including a patio, rock walls, granite steps and pathways and a wonderful firepit complement the dramatic changes in landscape from mountain to ocean.
